Kerala the
southern state of India experience equable climate all the year round. The
state lies very close to the equator but lying close to the sea and the
presence of the Western Ghats on the east, Kerala is well protected from the
hot winds blowing from the north.
The hill
reason or the highlands experience cool and pleasant weather conditions due to
the diversity in the geographical feature and diversity in landform, while the
plans are quite warm and humid.
It receives plenty of rainfall from two monsoons,
south west and north east. These rainfall helps in maintaining the green cover
of the Western Ghats as well as the hill stations also play an important role
in maintain the weather condition in many regions of the state.
May- June marks
the beginning of the South West Monsoon, which showers till July – August and
again it is well followed by the North east which starts from August –
September and showers magically till the end of October. After October, the
glorious tourism season starts which welcomes thousands of tourists, holiday
makers and honeymooners from across the globe.
Though
Monsoon is not favourable for Tourism in Kerala, but all the efforts are been
driven by the tourism authority to improve the industry and benefit even during
the lull season.
Here is a
brief description of the various seasons in Kerala-
Winter Season:
As the
monsoon ends, it is followed with winter. This season starts from the end of
November and last till the mid of February. Winters bring comparatively low
temperature but it does not vary much from other seasons. Though in the hilly
region, the temperature falls below 10 degree Celsius during winters.
Summer Season:
The
temperature starts rising at the end of winter season and thus summer starts in
Kerala. At this time relatively high temperature along with low rainfall and
humid weather is experienced. Still compared to other states of India, Kerala
is much cooler and pleasant during summers. The summer season starts from March
and lasts till the end of May or even the beginning of June.
South West Monsoon
Season:
This is the time
when there is heavy rainfall in Kerala. It starts around the end of May or
early June with the outset of the southwest winds. In the coming months
torrential rain is experienced in Kerala. As because of the location of Kerala
near the Western Ghats, it receives abundant rainfall. Almost 85 % of rain is
contributed by the monsoon season as most of rivers of Kerala are also fed
during this time. This southwest monsoon lasts till the end of September.
North East Monsoon Season:
This season
is also known as the Retreating Monsoon season as during this time the
southwest monsoon winds returns. This season falls during the month of October
and November and sometimes it may last till December. The temperature hot and
humid but there is not much variation.
These
different seasons add colour to this vibrant state. The winters are beautiful
and imaginative, while the monsoon has its own beauty. Kerala welcomes you in
almost all the seasons of the year as its each season gives you a unique
experience from the other.
